I've had to migrate git hosting twice because of downtime or availability.
Even still, I'm using a friend's IRC server that occasionally goes offline.
This Pleroma server as I recall was completely unavailable during Comic-Con.
So I don't find self-hosting very appealing.

@scuti I was blocked by their antibot because of a custom User-Agent on Firefox, so it seems their rules are quite restrictive.

It'd be amazing to have web applications that never crash because of an unforeseen error therefore never have to be restarted.
Like it'd make self hosting way easier.
But I'm pretty sure 99% of the server applications aren't made for that.

@newt I would run into the same problems I did before when I went with self/friend hosted servers, and we can't babysit a server all day.
Codeberg is by far not perfect, but it works enough.
